October 25 - Arrival

Our guests had a long flight from Lyon to Munich to Charlotte to New Orleans. They left Lyon around 1 am our time and arrived about 6:30 pm.
There was a bit of a humbug at the airport as Lloyd and I waited at the wrong gate. We're glad Bernard snapped this photo of their arrival.

This photo was taken on the ferry. What better way to introduce visitors to New Orleans than a ride on the ferry, especially when they will be living in Algiers, only a few blocks from the ferry landing.

This photo, taken by Bernard, speaks for itself.

At the house, we kept them awake with a light repast. Lloyd and I had stocked their kitchen with some food, and tired as they were, we all sat down for a little fried chicken and potato salad while we exercised our fractured French and not-quite-ready-for-prime-time English. It worked. Among the five of us, a least one can come up with the word or phrase required.
We were hesitant about offering wine, so Lloyd opted for
Dixie beer as their introduction to regional beverages.

Kathie is digging in her satchel for an important piece of paper: the tentative agenda for the visit. Romain looks as if he's completed an 18-hour trip and wishes to go to bed!

Our visitors pretty much left the planning of their visit up to us but for a request to see alligators and hear lots of music. They'd seen a program on French TV about the Louisiana swamps and were intrigued. Romain is studying music.
As you'll see in future posts, this schedule underwent several revisions.

Tomorrow: A Free Day
