The family home is on relatively high ground near Esplanade Ridge. During Katrina, the water did not rise high enough to enter the house. |
The corner Lloyd is in is where the bed was located when his mother gave birth to him. He teases Louise that she was born in a hospital while he was privileged to be born at home. |
Aunt Louise brought out some photo albums to share. In this picture she is preparing for her wedding to Elliott Kaufman with her great aunt Elvira "Vavsie" Dobard looking on. |

More cousins! |
Hello Kathie
ReplyDeleteMy name is Luke Sanders and I'm very interested in your blog. I'm trying to find some more information on my family line and keep finding things about Dobards. I've seen the picture of Lucy and Alphonse many times, I'm just not sure how exactly they are related to me. I believe that Arnolie Sanders and Rita Dobard are my great grandparents. Are Lucy and Alphonse Arnolie's parents? I'm a bit confused. Could you contact me please so I can clarify my family ancestory. Thanks luke@beiwaiguoji.com
I'm confused, too. The photos of Lucy and Alphonse are part of another cousin's collection. She has passed, so can't be queried. I have no information on the parents of Arnolie Sanders. Which of Arnolie and Rita's children are you descended from?

DeleteHi Kathie.
ReplyDeleteWe (Luke & I) are Theodore "Thedo" Sanders, Sr.'s grandchildren.
I think Alphonse and Lucy are our great great grandparents (Arnolie's parents); however, confusion arises because Rita and Lucy have same last name of Dobard and they're mother/daughter in laws. Perhaps they are distant cousins?
Here is my email: kiasanders@ymail.com
Luke's father (my uncle) & I will be in New Orleans next month. Hopefully we can learn more!
